Inflammatory Muscle Disease Fellowship
The Inflammatory Muscle Disease (IMD) Fellowship Program opened July 1, 2023. The 12-month fellowship trains one trainee each academic year. We are currently accepting applications for the 2025-26 academic year, starting July 1, 2025.
The program aims to prepare future leaders of IMD for careers in academic medicine, industry, and clinical practice. Clinical training will occur at the UPMC Myositis Center, an outpatient clinic. The fellow will provide continuity of care for patients with inflammatory muscle diseases in the outpatient settings. The fellow's primary clinic will be at the Myositis Center and attend elective interstitial lung disease (ILD) clinics, and Rheumatology-Pulmonology clinics.
The fellow will both attend and present at the Rheumatology Friday Conferences. Didactics include Radiology Conferences, Neuromuscular conferences, Journal Club, Grand Rounds, CARET (Clinical Application of Research Evidence in Therapeutics) sessions, Clinical Case Conferences, Business of Rheumatology lectures, Practice Improvement Conferences, CARE Questions (board review topics), Ultrasound practicum, and an annual Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound Workshop. The fellow will attend weekly ILD conferences.
Trainees must have successfully completed a fellowship in either Rheumatology, Neurology, Dermatology, or Pulmonology. They must also be eligible for a PA unrestricted Medical License, be considered capable of reaching the performance standards of a licensed practitioner through our training process. H1B and J1 visas are accepted.
Applications must be submitted by November 1st. Interviews will be conducted in December.
